    Weekend Bites Valentines Day ideas

Ah Valentines Day. It’s coming up Tuesday! My kids have brought home lists of classmates, I’ve signed up to help in one of the classrooms for their party. Now we just need to put it together. The older girls gave Mark and I some valentines last week after a church activity. One of them encouraged us to go on a date. It was so sweet, and I’ve truly been thinking that we should. My problem is next week is busy! Busiest week I’ve had in a long time really. We’ve got Valentine’s parties, Chloe’s birthday, 2 friends birthdays, a doctors appointment, and the awesome Science Fair and a school project that involves building a “simple machine”.

As much as I want a date night for Valentine’s, especially before this baby is born, I think this year we’ll keep it close to home. Here are some great ideas I found on last week’s party that may be making an appearance in my home this week.

We’ve made it a whole month into the New Year! The kids are back in school, and maybe, just maybe we’re all feeling a little more ‘back in the groove’ lately? I know I am. It took us awhile. A lot of crazy happened in January for us, which I wont’ get into here, but I do think we’re back on track to keeping routines. You know what my favorite thing about a routine is? Having a routine leaves extra time to have fun and do things like craft. I don’t get crafty nearly as much as I would like. The following projects were shared last week, and between their awesome looks and easy steps, I’m ready to get my craft back on!

    Crafty Features

I have no immediate use for these, other than to create a conversation piece for my desk, and to have something pretty to look at while working. Maybe I’ll even hide some chocolate in one?

This week’s featured inspiration comes from Lolly Jane’s blog and her DIY Laundry Room on a budget. I’ve been doing a lot of laundry recently. We ran out of soap for awhile, and I just didn’t make time to get to the store. So the piles grew, and grew some more. When we finally picked up more detergent, I took one day and got all the laundry washed, dried, folded and put away! Go me! After a marathon laundry day, however, I definitely felt like I deserved a treat. So enjoy these features, and then go treat yourself – even if your laundry isn’t all done.
Enquiring minds want to know – do you do your laundry all in one day, or spread it out?

    Pregnancy Cravings at Weekend Bites

This week I have finally had some cravings! There are only 2 months left to this pregnancy, but those pregnancy cravings are kicking in. Mostly it’s been water, thankfully. A nice easy access craving that is pretty good for me and the baby. I never use to take water to bed, but these days I need a cup either on my bedside table or sitting by the bathroom sink. I just can’t get enough of it. Beyond that, nothing crazy has become a craving, except sweets. Cookies, chocolate, fruit smoothies – if it’s sweet I want some. That and carbs.

What did you crave while pregnant? I’d love to hear in the comments, or you can share a link!

Warm up with these Soup recipe from Weekend bites

Before Christmas we got a little snow. It lasted about 2 days before melting. Today it snowed another inch or so, but tomorrow’s forecast has nice sunny skies. I’ll be honest, I love me some snow. I know there are some people out there who don’t. The ones who would happily live in the south forever. Not me. Give me snow, please! I need more of it. The lack of cold weather I think has even started to take effect on my mood. So cold, or not, I’m cooking up soups the next couple of days. We’ll pretend it’s cold like North Dakota and Wyoming, with piles of snow waiting to greet us outside.

I’m curious, do you like the snow? Or do you live where it’s warm year round to avoid the cold?

    Soup Features

[AD] Stay warm on days like this is with a hot bowl of quick pozole rojo. We keep it simmering on the stove so we can savor it all day long. I keep sliced radishes, chopped onions, crushed herbs, and lime wedges in the fridge to add crunch and a fresh flavor that feels like summer. This recipe comes together fast with pantry staples, like @Knorr Knorr® Tomato Bouillon with Chicken flavor. Get the recipe at jenniferppriest.com and warm up with pozole in less than an hour. PLan your New Years Eve Party at Weekend Bites!

Goodbye 2016, Hello 2017! I don’t know how your year went, but mine was most assuredly what it feels like to be on a rollercoaster. This year we took a ride in an ambulance (still paying that bill off), went to my first blog conference, had a girls weekend in Colorado, became pregnant with Baby #5, suffered through depression, totaled a car, and learned what water looks like when your water softener blows. To be honest, I loved 2016. We stayed in the same house the whole year, and have no current plans of moving in 2017. Despite the crazy that happened, I learned and grew a lot. So let’s give 2016 a big shout for joy, and enter 2017 with a grin ready to take on whatever may come.

Leave the cooking for another day, make these snacks for Christmas day.

Every family is different. For some Christmas comes with a big meal. It’s almost like Thanksgiving all over again. For others, they do as little as possible. I fall in the latter category. I cook and bake and clean the kitchen on a daily basis throughout the whole year. So there is one day a year I take almost completely off from the kitchen. We pull out paper plates, disposable napkins, and try to shoot for finger foods that the kids can get on their own without needing my help. For those like me, who want little prep work, and little to no dirty dishes on Christmas day, check out these delicious snacking foods from last week’s party.

Grab a bite to eat with these Christmas breakfast ideas from Weekend Bites

Wow, Christmas is coming up fast. I keep thinking I have more time to prep everything – shop, wrap, mail, bake – but then I realize I don’t. It could possibly be because I just got around to changing our November calendar out to December…  I digress. One of my favorite traditions, and fond memories from childhood, was our Christmas breakfast. The rest of the day we pretty much snacked on whatever, ate candy and oranges from our stocking, but not for Breakfast. No, my dad always made us his dutch poffertjes. I try to do the same for my kids, but we also mix in Mark’s childhood breakfast of Christmas Crunch

Do you have a traditional Christmas breakfast, or does it change every year? If you’re looking for something new, I’d suggest one of these delicious looking recipes from last week’s party. Who doesn’t love bread first thing in the morning covered in a glaze?
